Lighting Systems
Night riding is a unique and exciting experience
that every cyclist should try. The same
old trails you've ridden countless times suddenly become new and exciting again
like you're riding them for the first time. It's also a great solution for those with busy schedules. In the fall after the time change, many
people who work during the day find it difficult to fit rides in during
daylight hours, night riding is the perfect solution. I have extensive night riding experience over the past 6
years. I've used lighting systems from
all of the major manufacturers and have chosen to carry Light & Motion and
Jet Designs. When you're out there in
the dark (& sometimes cold, rainy weather) you need a system you can count on. You don't want to be worried about your
light going out in the middle of a fast downhill. I often ride solo, at night, in cold weather, and in technical
terrain - I can't afford to use cheap lights.I want bright light, good run time, long-term durability, and ease of
use. Light & Motion and Jet Designs
have exceeded all of my expectations.
Light & Motion - L&M came to the bike industry after 10 years as the premier
builder of underwater
lighting systems. Underwater environments require the ultimate
in durability, which transferred perfectly to
the world of bicycle
lighting. L&M is the most
innovative lighting company in the industry, period. They
were the first to introduce NiMH
batteries, HID systems, and rapid/smart charging technology, the 3 most
significant advances in lighting
technology. Their systems are
lightweight, reliable, and well
built. They
offer a wide variety of lights to
meet everyone's needs, from the occasional commuter to the hard-core
off-road night rider or 24-hour
racer.
Jet Designs - Jet builds a variety of systems in both single and dual-beam,
6volt and 13.2volt. Their least
expensive lights emphasize
brightness and reliability with no unnecessary frills, giving you the most bang
for
the buck. Their high-end systems offer the most
advanced digital features (fuel gauges, infrared switches,
multiple light levels) without
sacrificing run-time or reliability.Remember, wattage isn't everything - my
12w Jet helmet light puts out
significantly more light than many 15w systems I've used in the past. The
quality of the reflector and the
overall efficiency of the system can dramatically affect actual light output.
